Hill Votes in Favor of Iranian Leadership Transparency Act

The House Financial Services Committee voted to pass H.R. 5461, the Iranian Leadership Transparency Act, sponsored by Rep. Bruce Poliquin (ME-2), by a vote of 39-20.

H.R. 5641, would require the Treasury Secretary to develop and post online a list estimating the “funds and assets” held by senior Iranian political and military leaders, along with a description of how they acquired the assets and how those assets are employed. The report would be posted on the Treasury Department’s website in English but also translated into the three main languages used inside Iran, and would be available in any of those forms in a way that is easy to download and share.

Rep. French Hill: “This administration just six years ago this month, turned its back on the people of Iran when they were trying to protest their notorious regime and took to the streets, but then [the administration] turned right around to negotiate with the ayatollahs on a failed, ill-conceived, misdirected, poorly designed, disaster of an Iranian transaction, fueling Iran as the world’s largest supporter of terrorism.”
