Governor Hutchinson Appoints Chalk Mitchell as First Judicial Circuit Judge

LITTLE ROCK – Governor Asa Hutchinson has appointed Chalk Mitchell as First Judicial Circuit Judge.

Governor Hutchinson issued the following statement on Chalk Mitchell:

“I have known Chalk Mitchell for more than 10 years. It’s an honor to appoint someone to this critical judicial position who has both the highest of academic achievement and professional respect as well as the ideal judicial temperament.”

A native of Helena-West Helena, Chalk Mitchell’s varied legal background includes 16 years as an assistant U.S. attorney. He also has held his own private practice and served as a city attorney and a state prosecutor. From 2002-04, Mitchell was a Phillips County District Judge, and he has been appointed a Special Associate Justice to the Arkansas Supreme Court. A graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Mitchell earned his law degree at Georgetown University and his masters of public administration at Harvard.

Mitchell will succeed the late Judge L.T. Simes II of Helena-West Helena, who passed away earlier this month.
