French Hill Talks Border Security on Sunday Morning Talk Shows

On Sunday, Rep. French Hill went on Capitol View and Talk Business & Politics to discuss his recent trip to the U.S.-Mexico Border, and the House’s passage of H.R. 702, a bill that would lift the outdated export ban on crude oil.

Rep. Hill on Capitol View: This is such a big issue in our country, and I have a plan to travel along the border during these first couple of years. I went to El Paso back in April, and this was a trip to Laredo, TX, which is important because it is the second largest port in the U.S., only to Los Angeles-Long Beach… every day, thousands of people cross that border for illegal purposes. The purpose of my trip was to look at the river there and look at border security, talk to the local sheriffs, talk to local border patrol, and I found that there are some gaps in border security in Laredo that I think could be benefited by enhanced technology.

Rep. Hill on Talk Business & Politics: If we are able to export crude oil and export liquefied natural gas to our Asian partners, and our partners in Europe, it’s actually a national security benefit to let Europe not be dependent on Russian gas, or Middle Eastern Oil. And the economic benefits are about a million jobs created in this country—we are losing jobs in the oil patch right now—and a positive impact on prices at the pump. They expect prices to be effected positively for the consumer by three to ten cents
