ICYMI: Arkansas Delegation Honors JPH on House Floor

Hammerschmidt served for 13 terms in the
U.S. House from N.W. Arkansas district before
he retired in 1993.  In 1974, a nationally
Democratic year, he defeated then 28-year-old
future President Bill Clinton.  He was also the
the first Republican elected to the U.S.
House from Arkansas since Reconstruction.
WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, April 28, 2015, Representatives Rick Crawford (R-AR-1), French Hill (R-AR-2), Steve Womack (R-AR-3), and Bruce Westerman (R-AR-4) paid tribute to former U.S. Representative John Paul Hammerschmidt (R-AR-3; 1967-1993) and observed a moment of silence in his honor on the House Floor. Hammerschmidt passed away on April 1, 2015, at the age of 92.
