Westerman Maintains Strong Lead in Fourth District Race

Little Rock, Arkansas — Former Arkansas House Majority Leader Bruce Westerman continues to maintain a strong lead in his race to represent Arkansas’s Fourth Congressional District.  In a poll commissioned by the Republican Party of Arkansas and conducted on Tuesday, Westerman leads Democrat James Lee Witt, 46-39.

Westerman’s lead in the race at this late date explains the Witt Campaign’s recent decision to launch a misleading and negative attack against the Westerman campaign.  The ad, released Wednesday by Witt, repeats the traditional “Mediscare" attack launched by Democrats every campaign, but ignores Witt’s refusal to repeal Obamacare—which has resulted in over $700 billion in cuts to Medicare.

“This poll confirms the reality Arkansas Democrats are facing in 2014:  The people of the Fourth District, like their fellow Arkansans, are opposed to candidates like Democrat James Lee Witt who supports Obamacare and will serve as an enabler to the failed agenda of Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.  Arkansans are putting their trust in conservative leaders like Bruce Westerman who will fight Obama’s failed policies and overreaching federal agencies like the EPA and IRS that are nothing but hassles for hardworking Arkansans.  Our state needs more freedom to create a better future for our children.  Bruce Westerman has already fought for more freedom in the state House, and will continue that fight in Congress.” — RPA Chairman Doyle Webb

The Westerman/Witt campaign has been relatively civil so far with no mudslinging or negative ads. Witt is a sly campaigner and hard to pin anything negative to his career since he has no legislative experience, except he knows how to expand government with programs, departments, and over staffing. He's smooth and comes across as an Old Style Democrat your parents could vote for. He may say he's fiscally conservative and he's worked across party lines, but that's where I become cynical.
adjective: cynical
1. believing that people are motivated by self-interest; distrustful of human sincerity or integrity.
"most voters are cynical about efforts to reduce the size of government"
2. concerned only with one's own interests and typically disregarding accepted or appropriate standards in order to achieve them.
"a cynical manipulation of public opinion"
Data shows that there is in fact a correlation between presidential approval ratings and the success of his party in congressional elections. The Republican candidates strategy has been to associate the current Democrats with Barack Obama, and it seems to be working according to recent polls. Mr. Witt claims he has no ties with President Obamas policies, but do you really think James Lee will "cross the aisle?" Ask yourself how will Witt vote on Obama's hidden agenda? He may say he supports the 2nd Amendment, but he's just one vote. Where will he stand on Obama's top priority of Climate Change? There has not been a real energy debate in years. Where does Witt stand on Obamas plan on EPA limits on greenhouse gases and a measure to approve the long-pending application for the Keystone XL oil pipeline? How will he vote on the Amnesty/ Immigration Issue, foreign policy, or the budget deficit? Rest assured that the Democrats will try to solve income and wealth inequality.
The Republican plan for next year isn't about congressional harmony but is mainly aimed at discrediting the Obama record, defining a new conservative vision, and building an appealing Republican platform for the 2016 presidential election.
We were promised Hope and Change, now it's time our change is in the right direction. Let's elect Bruce Westerman for Congress and I'm asking the 4th District to show their support for a proven conservative by voting FOR Bruce Westerman.
