Setting the Record Straight - The Truth About Fracking

by Senator John Boozman: Despite all the claims of the Obama Administration, we still lack a responsible approach to meeting our energy needs. Republicans have long favored an "all of the above" approach to an energy policy. That means if it's American, we need to be using it safely and responsibly.

No single source is the answer. However, in spite of any false reports you may have heard, one of the most promising sources is natural gas and oil produced by hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking", as it is commonly called.

Here are some facts about fracking in Arkansas:
  • The natural gas extracted from shale rock, including the “Fayetteville Shale” in Arkansas, provides a clean source of electricity for millions of Americans.
  • According to a study by the University of Arkansas, more than $12.4 billion was added to the economy from fracking in Arkansas over a three-year period.
  • This energy production provided jobs for at least 22,000 Arkansans, increased pay, and led to secondary small business and manufacturing jobs across the state.
Despite all these benefits, there is a concerted effort by fracking opponents—including many within the Obama administration—to mislead the American people about all that fracking has to offer. A report recently released by Republicans on the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee (on which I serve) seeks to set the record straight

I'm interested in your feedback about fracking. Please leave me a comment on my on my website about this important tool in a common-sense energy policy.
