Asa Hutchinson Reaffirms Support for Minimum Wage Increase

Bill Smith, Editor:  While supporting Asa Hutchinson over Mike Ross, I do not support Hutchinson's agreement with the progressive agenda / methods of increasing the minimum wage.  Research has shown that government manipulating wages comes back to hurt both the taxpayers and the employees via in higher prices and  increases taxation.  In a free market, wages should be determined by the market and not by government or any other progressive means such as forcing an amendment to the Arkansas Constitution.

This site remains committed to highlight all forms of "berryism"  including concepts advocated by "conservative" candidates. We support the freedom, liberty, free markets and capitalism.  We oppose creeping progressive socialism in all forms.  Asa Hutchinson should rethink this issue and lead in supporting free markets in Arkansas and not interfering between private business and its employees.  Leadership is not pandering to offset the positions of an opponent.  It is time to reconsider the 1975 words of Ronald Reagan (he was not talking about progressive stands):“Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people”.
LITTLE ROCK – Republican gubernatorial nominee Asa Hutchinson released the statement below reaffirming his support for increasing Arkansas’s minimum wage following the Labor Day holiday.I hope everyone had a fun and safe Labor Day weekend. As Arkansans head back to work on this Tuesday morning, I wanted to take a moment to reiterate my consistent support for increasing our state’s minimum wage. The ballot initiative, if confirmed on the ballot and passed, may accomplish this, but if it fails to pass, I pledge to work with the legislature to raise the minimum wage to at least match the federal minimum wage of $7.25. Our overall goal as a state should be to not just increase the minimum wage but to increase the living wage for an Arkansas family to make this state the best place to work, live and raise a family.

“I have a six point plan called the Asa Plan that makes us more competitive as a job creating state, and as Governor, we will make a better future for all Arkansans.”

It pains me to say this, but I really don't see much space between Hutchinson and Ross. The biggest difference is their party affiliation. After that, it's pretty much a blur. :-(
