David Ray, RPA Communications Director: We are already six weeks into the 2013 legislative session and things are busy in Little Rock. For the first time in over 138 years, Republicans have a majority in the state legislature, and they have already accomplished some great things. Here’s an update on the latest in our party.

Both State House and State Senate Override Gubernatorial Veto
Rep. Andy Mayberry’s (District 27) bill HB 1037 passed both houses with broad bipartisan support. The bill, which would protect innocent, unborn life by preventing abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, was then vetoed by the Governor. Fortunately, we were able to successfully override the veto and pass the bill into law. This episode is also a great reminder why we need to elect a Republican governor in 2014!

1,400 Days Since Mark Pryor and Harry Reid Passed a Budget
Wednesday marked the 1,400th day since Senate Democrats (including Mark Pryor) failed to pass a budget in Washington. Since regular Americans would lose their job if they failed to do it for almost four years, we feel that November of 2014 would be a great time to hand Senator Pryor his pink slip so he can join former Senator Blanche Lincoln in looking for another job. In another sign that Senator Pryor is on the run, both the NRA and national conservative groups are running advertising against him. Click here to see the most recent television ad exposing Senator Pryor’s record of voting for the Obama agenda.
Roll Call: "Dems’ best opportunity
to pick up a seat in Arkansas is if
Cotton runs for Senate. . . "
In the news…
Several Republicans have made big news this past week, including Lieutenant Governor Mark Darr, who stepped in to sign an important bill (sponsored by Senator Bruce Holland) that would protect the privacy of concealed carry permit holders while the Governor was in Washington, D.C.

Also, Congressman Tim Griffin was on MSNBC discussing sequestration and Congressman Tom Cotton sat down with KATV for a story about his time in office.

Lastly, DC newspaper Roll Call published an article stating that all four of our Congressmen find themselves in solid position to win re-election, and that the Democrats have an uphill climb to win back control of Arkansas’ Congressional seats.
