Boozman: Where I Stand On the UN Small Arms Treaty

U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR): I wanted to update you in advance of the Obama administration’s attempts to engage in a new round of negotiations over the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) which I believe is a backdoor effort to chip away at our Second Amendment, the right to keep and bear arms.

I am vehemently opposed to the United States signing this treaty that will regulate small arms. I believe in upholding our Constitution and I will vote against this treaty should it come to the Senate floor.
I have also co-sponsored a resolution introduced this week by Senator Jerry Moran that will exempt domestic, civilian firearm ownership from the treaty’s scope.

This is not a new issue. Last July, the U.N. Conference on the ATT dissolved without a treaty thanks in part to the efforts of my colleagues and I in the US Senate. You can be certain we will continue to oppose any attempt by this administration to impose this treaty on the American people.

I welcome your feedback on this issue. You can leave me a comment here.
