Bethune Endorses Rick Crawford for Congress

from Crawford for Congress

JONESBORO – First District Congressional candidate, United States Army veteran, and agri-business owner Rick Crawford today announced the endorsement of First District Native and former US Congressman to the Second Congressional District Ed Bethune today. Ed, who currently resides in Maryland, becomes yet another key endorsement in the Crawford for Congress Campaign.

“Rick Crawford is going to be a leader in Washington who is going to create jobs by preserving our free market system, help Americans invest in their own future by cutting taxes, and voting against any legislation that will nationalize our economy,” said Bethune. “Because of this, I am supporting Rick’s campaign fully to become the next Congressman of the First District.”

Bethune was elected to the United States House of Representatives, Second District of Arkansas, in 1978; and was reelected in 1980 and 1982. He was a member of the Committee on the Budget; Committee on Financial Affairs; and, Committee on Small Business. He was elected President of Republican class of new Members of Congress in 1978 – a class that included Vice President Dick Cheney, and Speaker Newt Gingrich. Bethune was the Republican nominee for U. S. Senate for Arkansas in 1984. Ed has also served as the Chairman of the Arkansas Republican Party from 1986-1988.

Ed has also been recognized with various awards and honors including Conservation and Wilderness Awards, Arkansas Wildlife Federation. He was also awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award of University of Arkansas School of Law as well as the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Chosen in 1978 to be a member of the Chowder and Marching Club, a small Republican leadership group in the House of Representatives. Still an active member of the club, which includes most Republican leaders in the House and Senate. Group meets each Wednesday evening that Congress is in session.

“The liberal agenda in Washington that is being forced on the American people by Nancy Pelosi must be stopped. The first vote that a Democrat will make if they were to be elected will be for Nancy Pelosi. I know that the first vote Rick will cast will be for a common sense, conservative approach and not for Nancy Pelosi. Rick is who we need at this critical time in our nation’s history representing us in Washington,” said Bethune.

This is the second significant endorsement this month of an elected official in Arkansas for the Crawford for Congress campaign with Governor Mike Huckabee endorsing the campaign earlier in January.

Berry to retire?

Word coming out of Washington is that Marion Berry will announce this morning that he will not seek re-election!

From the Washington Post

Arkansas Rep. Marion Berry is expected to announce his retirement tomorrow morning, according to three sources briefed on the decision.

Even if this rumor is true, it will be extremely important to pressure Berry until he leaves office. He's proven this year that he will vote against the interests of his constituents to suck up to the Obama-Pelosi-Reid axis, and it will be important to continually remind him he works for us!

Seven Men Who Are Probably Thinking About 'More Time With Their Families'

Jim Geraghty National Review Online: Horserace - The House Democrats that I would have at or near the top of a retirement watch list: John Spratt of South Carolina, Tim Bishop of New York, Earl Pomeroy of North Dakota, Rick Boucher of Virginia, Leonard Boswell of Iowa, Marion Berry of Arkansas, and Maurice Hinchey of New York.

I realize some of these folks have issued statements that they intend to run for reelection in 2010. But that was at least two days ago, and a lot's happened since then.

Open Letter to Leaders - Illegals legal?

Conress.Org: Open Letter to Leaders - Illegals legal?
To: President Barack Obama
Sen. Blanche Lincoln
Sen. Mark Pryor
Rep. Marion Berry

January 8, 2010

Just when are you going to start worrying about the people who put their money where their mouth is and support this country by working their asses off unlike these people who sit in high offices have had their wealth given to them and don't even worry about paying their fair share. These same people cheat on their taxes and then say I just didn't know.

You do not need to make open borders and legalizing these people who are lawbreakers. We have a 10% unemployment rate and you are wanting to give our jobs to illegal immigrants. NO to legalizing these lawbreakers and yes to upholding the will of the American people. This country is in debt already and Your job is to uphold the Constitution of which I'm beginning to believe you people don't believe in anymore it has become a party thing instead of the will of the people. At one time I believed in you and put my faith in you to stand up for our beliefs. Now I realize you are just in this for your own reasons and I'm ashamed of you.

What A Great Start to 2010

Rick Crawford, Candidate for Arkansas 1st District US Congress: Tonight was a great start to 2010! Tonight we all have witnessed what was once thought to be impossible - elect a conservative to one of the most liberal Senate seats in America. What the voters in Massachusetts did tonight was make the emphatic statement that what Washington is taking this country in the wrong direction.

It is time that we have someone in Washington who will be a servant to the people in the First District in Washington, not a servant of the liberal values of Washington in the First District.

Our traditional American values speak to our government being responsible with our tax dollars. Our traditional American values speak to our government not nationalizing our healthcare system. Our traditional American values speak to a free market that creates some of the best jobs of anywhere in the world.

Marion Berry has voted against our traditional American values. Marion Berry has voted with the liberal values of Washington in allowing out of control spending. Marion Berry has voted with the liberal values of Washington to impede job creation and economic growth.

Marion Berry has voted with Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi to nationalize our healthcare.

Marion Berry has decided that the values of Washington are more important that the values of the First District. [Source Crawford Campaign Press Release]

Thieves and Scalawags Meet in Southeast Arkansas to Congratulate Themselves

Gillett, Arkansas, a small rural community with a population of 883, is located in the tri-rivers country where the Arkansas and White Rivers flow to the Mississippi. Gillett is abundant in water, wildlife, and productive farm land, which produces its major crops of rice and soybeans. Gillett is also the home of the noted Coon Supper. This legendary and much celebrated event has spanned over fifty years and is one of the cornerstones of a proud community. The Gillett Farmers and Businessmen's Club, established in 1947, is responsible for the event. The nonprofit club uses proceeds from the Coon Supper to assist in Gillett community services and Gillett High School sports and academic programs. Sports these days has not been doing well.

by Harvey Edwards, Topix Editor: What do US Senator Blanche Lincoln, Congressman Marion Berry, Senator Mark Pryor, Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe, and  host of other Liberal Democrats have in common with the tiny Delta Town of Gillett Arkansas? The Delta is dying and so are the careers of the above mentioned band of scalawags. This didn't stop all of them from converging on this tiny town and taking over a school and community dinner for the annual Gillett Coon Supper.

The evening started for the Politicians and as many staffers as they could bring in all meeting at Congressman Berry's farm outside of town. This occurs every year at this time. Democrats only need attend. The Liquor flows and the backslapping continues until it is time for them to go slumming with the local townsfolk. Marion actually has someone guard his Sign and direct the other Liberals down the graveyard road to the Berry Barn for drinks, real food and lies.

The coon supper begins with the principal of Gillett elementary school discussing the purpose of the event. The Coach, who no longer has a team, gets up and makes a plea for people to please move to Gillett so that he can maybe have a team someday. A local comic gets up and talks local stories with a good jab or two at the politicians. The local pastor gets up and gives a great sermon as Berry staffers stare around to see if anyone is watching them. This is where the local aspect of this dinner ends, wait not quite. Miss Arkansas gets up and sings two Broadway tunes.  Because local folks respect, I want to separate her from the politicians and the Political derailment coming next.

Our hometown US Congressman Marion Berry gets up and from thereon whenever a politician's mouth moves, a lie is told. Berry touts how the people in the Delta are surviving the recession better than most. What he does not say is that we have had practice at living poor due to his and other's plantation politics. Lie number one: since Berry can get Riceland Foods and others big farming subsidies, it must mean we are all doing fine. While the farmers are getting disaster relief this year to make it through the winter, the actual working class doesn't even get a crumb and most dont get their bonuses.

Berry must have heard the school folks talking but he just wasn't listening or caring. Gillett can't even get a charter school because Governor Beebe and others will not allow for it. He touted the efforts of State Representative Tiffany Rogers for working for higher education. That is a joke. If the people here could afford a higher education, they would ALL have to leave the area afterwards to find a job.

Congressman Berry then introduces the biggest ruination of the Delta since the Civil war - Senator Blanche Lincoln, the one who lied to all of Arkansas and the Country and made it possible for Obamacare. She gets up and since she has been warned in advance not to discuss anything relevant, she begins patting her own back for being on the Agriculture Committee, and how proud her daddy would be of her. As a matter of fact ,all the scalawags patted Lincoln's back.

Governor Mike Beebe got up and said how Gillett was one of his four favorite places in Arkansas. I hope he remembered to wipe his mouth afterwards. Berry Got back up and told all in attendance that Mike Beebe was the best Governor that Arkansas has ever had, Stating that he would say that even if Bill Clinton were there. We're getting mushy now.

Senator Mark Pryor then gets up to speak.  Now all the lies began to blur into one, or was it the hot air or maybe smoke being blown up our rears. I began looking for the exit as I was beginning to perspire. It was noticed by the delegation from Maumelle; they were the only genuine folks I met there and I sat across from them speechless.

No one there could explain why the richest agricultural region of the world has the most poverty ridden and unsupported folks in the Country. Governor Beebe cannot get up and say that he will give tax breaks to businesses that will come to the region to keep us working and spending. That's how an economy grows; it does not grow by taking every federal dollar thrown at Government programs run and dictated over by Government bureaucrat.

By the time Mike Ross got up, it was becoming a blur to the point that I got up got my souvenir coon supper glass and with my granddaughter in tow made my way out to the frigid cold air for a breath of fresh air. My Granddaughter needs her rest as she will be spending all her working life paying for what these Liberal Criminals are stealing from her today.
A footnote: NONE of the media or politicians has made any advance media reports of their convergence on our pillaged Delta. Then again this was convenient since there was not a single tea party or nasty old right winger there except the townfolk who have lived with this all their lives.

I grew up in Gillett. I am the Candidate for Arkansas State Representative Dist 14. I did plant my Jim Holt for US Senate yard sign coming into town and politely removed it when I left and placed it in my yard in Stuttgart. Folks lets get involved in our own futures.

Dick Morris predictes that Marion Berry will lose in 2010

Dick Morris says the following in an article about Democrats jumping ship:
"Now that Ben Nelson, Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu and Byron Dorgan in the Senate and the likes of Marion Berry, Tom Perriello and John Spratt in the House have shown how easily they fold under pressure and how thin their conservatism really is, their states and districts will no longer be deceived into reelecting them. They will be replaced by real Republicans."
Dick Morris could not have said it any better when he said that the First District will no longer be deceived about Marion Berry. It is time to take traditional American values back to Washington so we can get our country back on track.

Vaughan Bows Out

Last week we reported that Mark Vaughan was considering running against Rick Crawford for the Republican nomination in the race for Arkansas' 1st Congressional District seat currently held by Marion Berry. But this week in a statement to supporters Vaughan says he plans to remain active in Arkansas politics and may seek office in the future, but not this time.

Here's his full statement:
Dear Friends,
Over the past couple of months we have diligently explored the possibility of my running for Arkansas's 1st Congressional District in 2010. It has been exciting to see the growing numbers who are very supportive of my candidacy. We are making progress and really enjoying the process. I believe that I have the qualifications, experience, leadership ability, and networks to eventually win and represent Arkansas in Washington D.C.

However, things are not developing fast enough for us to move forward. A successful campaign requires extraordinary organization and funding. At this point, time is not our friend. If we could have started in the spring of 2009, I am confident that we could have made a successful bid. Our international commitment did not allow us to arrive in the States and begin exploration until November. I do not feel that anything we have done has been wasted.

As the Lord allows, I intend to remain involved in Arkansas and U.S. politics in the coming days. As far as we know right now, this will be from India. When the time is right for me to launch a campaign, I hope that you will be energized and ready to help us fulfill our vision and dream of inspiring a new generation of godly leaders for our great country. As Christians, the greatest challenge before us is to reconnect our faith with real life.

I am deeply grateful for those of you who have pledged your time, energy, and resources to support us. No doubt, there were many others who would have eventually joined you. A number of you have already given so much to help us in this exploration phase. Thank you for your love, friendship, and loyalty. May God bless you for the kindness which you have shown to us and for the concern that you share for Arkansas and our nation as a whole.

Please keep us in your prayers!
Mark Vaughan, Ph.D.
Vaughan is a southern Baptist preacher who returned from serving as a missionary in India two months ago. Crawford officially announced his candidacy last summer and had quite a head start, working the 1st District and building support. To run a competitive primary campaign would have been extremely difficult given the groundwork already laid and the infrastructure already established by Crawford.

We at Boot Berry wish Vaughan and his family the best of luck.

Rick Crawford Endorsed by Iraq Veterans Group

Iraq Veterans for Congress Announces Full Support - First District Congressional candidate, agri-business owner, and former United States Army Sergeant Rick Crawford has accepted the endorsement of the Iraq Veterans for Congress (IVC), a Political Action Committee supporting the congressional campaigns of military veterans all across the United States.

We are excited to support the candidacy of Rick Crawford because his lifetime of service to country and community reflect the PAC’s goal of helping citizen soldiers become citizen legislators” said D. Patrick Mahoney, Iraq Vets For Congress PAC’s Director of Communications. Continued Mahoney, “Rick’s extensive military, business and communications experience make him an exceptional voice for the people of Arkansas’ 1st Congressional District and the United States.

“As a military veteran I am humbled and honored to receive this endorsement. I will work diligently to represent the traditional American values of Arkansans which includes many proud members of our military, both active and retired,” said Crawford.

Iraq Veterans for Congress PAC is a federally registered political action committee supporting conservative Republican Veterans. Founded in 2008, IVC chooses veterans who are determined to become a voice for U.S. military veterans, their families, and hardworking patriotic Americans who believe that our country, our Constitution and our way of life are worth fighting for.

The Iraq veterans for Congress PAC had previously endorsed two other Arkansas Veterans running for Congress: Tim Griffin for Arkansas’s 2nd District for Congress and Conrad Reynolds for Arkansas U.S. Senator.

UFO's More Likely than Health Bill Reducing Deficit

Tags: Insert tagsby Robert Romano, ALG Senior News Editor: Which is the greater likelihood? That Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO's) are visiting Earth, or that Barack Obama's proposed $2.5 trillion health bill will actually reduce the deficit as promised? Believe it or not, more Americans believe in UFO's than think legislation taking over the nation's health care system will do anything but add to the nation's insurmountable $12 trillion debt.

According to Rasmussen Reports, "The survey finds that 68% believe the legislation will increase the federal budget deficit. Only 11% say the program will achieve its stated goal of deficit reduction."

Compare that with 34% who believe in UFO’s, according to Opinion Dynamics. Put another way, little green men traveling from across the galaxy are more believable than Barack Obama, who in his now infamous speech to a joint session of Congress said, “The plan will not add to our deficit.”

Astrology (29%), ghosts (34%), and witches (24%) all poll better than specious claims that providing health coverage to 30-45 million additional people will not cost anything.  Which is really not that surprising. The Senate version of the bill — which allegedly removes the “public option” from the plan — will spend some $350 billion more than it takes in through revenues in its first ten years alone, as ALG News has previously reported.

None of which bodes well for Congressional Democrats, especially for some 18 Blue Dogs in the House who promised in a letter not to vote for a bill that was not deficit-neutral, and then did anyway. They were: Baron Hill (IN-CD9), Gabrielle Giffords (AZ-CD8), Patrick Murphy (PA-CD8), Mike Michaud (ME-CD2), Leonard Boswell (IA-CD3), John Salazar (CO-CD3), Travis Childers (MS-CD1), Christopher Carney (PA-CD10, Jim Cooper (TN-CD5), Sanford Bishop (GA-CD2), Marion Berry (AR-CD1), David Scott (GA-CD13), Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-CD3), Michael Arcuri (NY-CD24), Jim Costa (CA-CD20), Joe Baca (CA-CD43), Dennis Moore (KS-CD3), and Zack Space (OH-CD18).

They may, however, be able to boost their popularity by ordering an investigation of the Roswell “weather balloon” crash of 1947, or attending a few Star Trek conventions. Beam them up, Scotty. [Posted from]

We can stop Obamacare in Two Weeks!

Hat Tip: America, You Asked For It!

It just may be possible. And of all places for it to happen, Massachussetts is the battleground! That's right, the land of Martha's Vineyard, Ted Kennedy, and Barney Frank may hold the key to stopping the runaway train to Socialism that we've been trying to derail for months!

On January 19, there will be a special election to fill the seat vacated by Senator Kennedy's death. Without this seat, the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda will fall flat on its face because the Socialists in DC will no longer be able to overcome a Republican filibuster.

Here's a press release from Conservative Solutions on Facebook that lays out a plan for winning the first battle of 2010!
Subject: If you REALLY want to stop the Obama/Reid/Pelosi agenda

It's not faxes. It's not rallies. It is Scott Brown for US Senate in 15 days!!!

On Tuesday, January 19th there is a special election for the US Senate in Massachusetts. This race has huge national implications. This is the seat formerly held by Ted Kennedy and most importantly, would represent the 41st vote breaking Harry Reid’s filibuster proof majority in the Senate.

If we can elect Army Natl. Guard Lt. Col. Scott Brown to the US Senate then…
  • Obamacare. – Dead
  • Cap and Trade – Dead
  • Another Stimulus Package – Dead
This will be a very low turnout election so GOTV is crucial.

Here are two things you can do.

Click on this link to make Voter ID and GOTV calls via the Brown Campaign’s virtual phone bank. We are halfway towards our goal of making 500,000 calls by election day. The sooner we can make the initial calls, the sooner we can start re-calling Undecided’s.

Also, if you have $5, 10, $25, $50 or whatever you can spare, please sign up to donate to the Brown Campaign on January 11.

I understand that for some of you, Scott may not be as socially conservative as you would like but he is as socially conservative as you can be and still get elected in Massachusetts. His opponent supports Taxpayer funding for Abortion. She supports overturning the Defense of Marriage Act. She opposes the troop surge in Afghanistan. She supports a second stimulus package.

If you would like more information about Scott, you can visit his website.

Thank you, Brad Marston, Co-Executive Director, Conservative Solutions
We've been fighting a war against our way of life for almost a year now. Here is an opportunity to deal the enemy a decisive blow, and possibly win the war. And it's a simple two step plan that can be implemented by anyone, anywhere in the US.
