Little Rock, Ark. – The state Republican Party today announced that the filing period to become a 2012 presidential delegate or alternate to the Republican National Convention begins today and ends at 5:00 p.m. on May 21, 2012. The Republican National Convention will be held in Tampa Bay, Florida, from Aug. 27 to 30, 2012.
Interested individuals must be a qualified voter in their county, pay a $150 filing fee to the Republican Party of Arkansas and sign an affidavit of eligibility. Candidates for delegate or alternate must also commit themselves to the support of a specific presidential candidate at the time of filing. The filing form can be obtained online at arkansasgop.org or by calling the Republican Party headquarters at 501-372-7301.
The Republican National Convention will host 2,286 delegates and 2,125 alternate delegates from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and five territories. Arkansas has 36 delegates and 33 alternates to the convention. Under Republican National Committee (RNC) rules, Arkansas’ three RNC members, State Party Chairman Doyle Webb, National Committeewoman Reta Hamilton and National Committeeman Jonathan Barnett, are automatic delegates. The remaining 33 delegates and 33 alternates will be elected at the Special District Conventions on June 9, 2012 and the State Committee meeting on June 23, 2012.
