Berry Doesn't Want to Hear from You

I just contacted Representative Berry's office (again) and asked if he has any town hall meetings or other public appearances scheduled for the August recess. Their answer was typical of the response I seem to get everytime I contact his office, nothing.

"As of now, he doesn't have anything scheduled," was all I could get from the man on the phone. Of course, it's July 31 so that means he's not going to schedule any time to hear from the folks back home.

One would think, with such an important issue looming as the government takeover of our health care system, the Congressman would want to hear from his constituents while he's back home. Especially if the answers I've been getting to my questions are correct--that he hasn't yet determined his position on the so-called "public option," he doesn't know where he stands on employer mandates, he can't refute the inevitable rationing of care with previously released versions of the bill, he has no response to questions about the so-called "end of life counseling" that could also be referred to as "go ahead and die counseling," etc.

Congressman Berry evidently doesn't want to hear from the same constituents who responded to the Talkbusiness.net poll we reported on here. The 86% who are satisfied with their current health care system may demand he not sell them out to the left-wing Obama-Pelosi branch of the Democratic party. The 74% who prefer private insurance companies to an impossible to navigate monstrous bureaucracy may insist he side with them in this life and death battle. And the 59% of Arkansans who don't want their taxes increased to fund rationed care of reduced quality may demand he ignore special interest groups like ACORN and the SEIU and listen to those he supposedly represents.

Perhaps he plans to spend his time off pandering to those he really represents, the folks who fill the coffers of his campaigns. Of course these folks aren't even from Arkansas for the most part! So maybe it's little wonder he has no intention of engaging voters in his district during the August recess.

His staff informed me that his Jonesboro office handles scheduling when Berry's in Arkansas. Let's overwhelm his staff in Jonesboro with calls to demand our employee listen to us. After all, he does work for us.

Tell Berry to Say NO to Obamacare!

Though our goal is to bring Berry home next year, we still must live with the result of his votes between now and then. One of those votes, on the Pelosi-Obama health care reform being rammed through Congress, is certain to have an historic impact on current and future generations of Americans.

I've called Berry's office numerous times over the past few weeks and asked specific questions about his position on this controversial issue. Immediately following the first version released by the House, his aides told me they were reading the "chronically long" bill and would have more concrete statements the following week. That was weeks ago and still Berry's office won't take a stand on anything in the bill. I've asked if he is open to a government-run (in Dem-speak: public option) plan and received no answer. I've asked for specific items he'd require in a bill before voting for it, and specific items that would cause him to vote against it. In both cases, I receive no answer.

Today, Berry's Blue Dog colleague Mike Ross announced a deal between the (so-called) conservative Democrats and the Pelosi-Obama wing on the House Energy and Commerce Committee--a move that will allow a bill out of committee before the August recess. Following this announcement, I again contacted Berry's DC office and again received a meaningless response. When asked if Berry supported the compromise, the aide responded "The Congressman won't have a public statement until a final bill is released."

Last week when I called to get a response to the Talkbusiness.net poll posted here, his office was unaware of the results.

Now it's time to make Congressman Berry aware of the fact that 86% of Arkansans ARE satisfied with the current health care system. 74% DON'T support a government-run health care system. And 59% DON'T want to pay increased taxes to implement a government-run system. Join us to make sure Berry knows Arkansans aren't buying Obamacare!

On Saturday, August 22, 2009, conservatives around the country will be congregating at local offices of our elected representatives to let our voice be heard. At 12:00 noon CST, Recess Rallies will be held at Marion Berry's offices in Jonesboro, Mountain Home, and Cabot to send a clear, irrefutable message that we DON'T want Obamacare and he WILL be held accountable for any vote to force us into an inefficient, ineffective government-run health care system.

Marion Berry (D-Out of State) - The Million Dollar Man

83% of Berry's contributions are from PACs & 95% of those are from out of state.

by K. Ryan James: Over in Northeast Arkansas, “The Million Dollar Man” Rep. Marion Berry is facing a challenge to his 1st Congressional District seat by Jonesboro Republican Rick Crawford.

Mr. Berry, who came to the beltway at the start of the administration of Bill Clinton (and basically hasn’t left since), reported $537,700 cash on hand for his re-election bid, according to the Federal Election Commission. That number has been reached thanks to $225,405 in contributions.

That is a solid fundraising number by Mr. Berry. However, when you look deeper, you find that $186,560 of that total comes not from individual donors, but from 94 donations by political action committees. Looking even deeper, you find that $177,000 of those donations come from 88 out-of-state PACs.

Marion Berry - Lap Dog for Speaker Pelosi - No Blue Dog

Rep. Marion Berry tries to cover his tracks when he is back home in Arkansas claiming that he is a farmer interested in agriculture in the 1st District. But as evidence has proven in the past, the only interest Berry has in agriculture is lining his own pockets with farm subsidy money. When he is home, he knows his district did not vote for Barack Obama. Sources have advised that Berry takes a few liberties and casts dispersions against Obama. But when he returns to Congress, he drops the agriculture label and is identified as a pharmacist. He doesn't want to be considered a "hay seed" in Congress with his liberal colleagues. He also turns tail and praises Barack Obama and rejoins the fold not as a Blue Dog but as a Lap Dog of Speaker Pelosi.

Berry’s website will lead you to believe he stands for a balanced budget, is against excessive borrowing by the federal government, and fights against “reckless spending.” That certainly sounds like a fiscally conservative Democrat, but an inspection of Berry’s votes on the Bank Bailout, the Auto Industry Bailout, Obama’s $787 billion Stimulus Spending Bill, and the latest Bloated Budget tells a different story. Berry voted for all of these, supporting all of those things a “Blue Dog” Democrat supposedly opposes.

The citizens of the Arkansas 1st Congressional District don't need a Pelosi "Lap Dog" or even a "Blue Dog" representing the 1st District. They need a real "Bull Dog" Conservative standing for Arkansas values, limited government, and individual liberty.

Berry forces you to pay for abortions

Marion Berry wants your tax dollars to help support Planned Parenthood--the lawbreaking group that just never gets enough of ripping babies from their mothers' womb.

On July 16, Congressman Berry tried to pull a fast one on pro-life Arkansans. Pro-death Democrats in the House set up rules to avoid a floor vote on a pro-life amendment to an appropriations bill. Berry originally voted against the rule and would have allowed the Tiahart (R_KS)-Davis (D-TN) amendment (which banned taxpayer funding of abortions) to receive an up or down vote on the floor. However, Democratic leaders didn't like the outcome of that vote and "left the vote open." This means they allowed time for some members to change their minds.

Our own Berry, who can claim he originally voted to ban the use of your tax dollars to fund abortions, once again did the bidding of Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama by changing his vote. Pro-lifers had won the round on the first vote, but Berry's vote, along with 3 other devious Democrats, turned the tide and pro-death Democrats prevailed by a vote of 216-213.

Thanks to Berry, our tax dollars will now be funneled to Planned Parenthood and used to murder unborn babies.

Arkansans on Health Care

I've called Marion Berry's office numerous times in the past few weeks asking for statements on the multitude of left-wing, radical bills being rushed through Congress. The best I've gotten is a vague response that never really answered my questions from the person who answered the phone. Other times I was put through to the press secretary's voice mail where I left a detailed message and my contact information.

Not one time has Berry's office returned my calls to address my concerns. So I still don't know exactly where he stands on Obama's attempts to seize control of our health care system. Since the folks who answer the phone in his office have gotten an earful from me more than once, I assume he doesn't agree with my position. Otherwise, you'd think his employees would be quick to point that out. I've asked specifically, "Will you vote for a bill that includes a government insurance option?" No answer.

If it's the case that he wouldn't mind a government run health care system, that he'd be okay with the demise of all private insurance companies, that it'll be okay with him if seniors are just left to die once they reach a certain age, and that we will have to wait days, weeks, or months to get the care we now get almost immediately...he'd better start paying more attention to what Arkansans want.

Yesterday, TalkBusiness.net released a poll that shows Arkansas voters are light years away from Obama and the Democrats when it comes to health care reform. Take a look at some of the questions and the results.

So 86% of Arkansans are at least somewhat satisfied with the current system. Only 14% are less than satisfied.

Arkansas U.S. Rep. Marion Berry's Two Faced Actions Questioned

Reprint of 7/19/09 article by Dr. Bill Smith, ARRA News Service: In a letter to the editor appearing in the Saturday, July 18 issue of the Jonesboro Sun, a Jonesboro, Arkansas man expressed his disdain for the lack of leadership demonstrated by Congressman Marion Berry (D-AR Dist 1) with respect to cap-and-trade legislation which recently passed in the U.S. House. Berry received kudos from a number of businesses in a co-sponsored ad that appeared in the July 5 issue of the Sun. In this letter, not only is Berry called out for his lack of leadership, so too are the sponsors of the ad for engaging in what appeared to be a partisan political endorsement.

First, in summary, this is what really happened in Washington D.C.: Lap Dog Berry voted for cap-and-trade to get it onto the floor of the U.S. House. Why didn't Berry kill it right then and there by voting against it in committee? It was all a charade. After voting for the bill, Nancy Pelosi patted lap dog Berry's behind and allowed Berry to vote against the bill on the floor since his vote no longer mattered. I guess Speaker Pelosi believed that Master Berry's Arkansas plantation "people" made up of poor "Delta river and Ozark mountain folks" wouldn't even notice the bait-and switch. Well we are not as ignorant as Pelosi thinks -- We noticed! While some of the member cooperatives attempted to play politics with money from their members, many of us wondering "what in the sam hill" were they doing. David Hundley is to be commended for his standing tall with his letter addressing Berry's bait-and-switch on cap-and-trade. Representative Berry can we trust you to be straight on anything?

Here's Hundley's letter:

Dear Editor,
While some Arkansas businesses (evidenced by the full color ad that ran in Sunday's Jonesboro Sun) have rushed to pat Congressman Marion Berry on the back for his “leadership” on climate change legislation, two important factors have been grossly overlooked and understated.

First, and most obvious: the negative outcome. If you recall, the cap-and-trade measure passed the House and is now in the hands of the Senate. At best, this tax in disguise does nothing but raise energy costs by an estimated $1800 per family at a time when they can ill afford added expenditures.

Second, and perhaps less obvious: the duplicitous method. Mr. Berry voted FOR the measure in conference. Only after Speaker Pelosi had secured enough votes to safely pass the bill was Congressman Berry given a pass to protect his standing in the First District. Berry's no vote on the floor had no impact on the outcome of the bill and accomplished nothing other than a well placed piece of PR that landed in the Jonesboro Sun this past Sunday.

Leadership? Hardly. Had Mr. Berry taken a leadership role in conference, perhaps this over reaching, over taxing bill might never have made it to the floor. It's becoming increasingly more obvious that Mr. Berry is content only to occupy a chair in Washington, and nothing more.

If that's the Berry brand of leadership, I'll pass, and I would appreciate it if member cooperatives would do the same.

Oh, the Hypocrisy!

As a voter in Marion Berry's district, I'm proud to be invited to contribute to his political demise by way of this blog. So I went directly to the Congressman's website to see what he's offering for material to write on.

Turns out, this was a great day to launch this blog. (Could it be a sign or something?) Here's the headline that caught my eye under his "Recent News" section. Dated yesterday, I could hardly believe the hypocrisy dripping from my computer screen.

Say what?!?!?

If I didn't know better that would sound great. But I do know better. This hypocrite who calls himself a Blue Dog was quick to march in solidarity with the queen liar on Capitol Hill, Nancy Pelosi, and our Socialist President Obama earlier this year when they quadrupled our deficit and spent enough money to enslave our children for decades!

Here's a video we made earlier, set to the soundtrack of National Republican Congressional Committee ad, that shows the absolute hypocrisy of Berry's vote yesterday.

Expect more hypocritical votes from Berry as next year's election becomes closer. He's counting on you not remembering his votes to bailout irresponsible management on Wall Street and a "stimulus" that didn't stimulate. The tax and spend Berry may try to disguise himself over the next few months, but he can't hide from his recent Pelosi lap dog votes.

Don't buy it Arkansas. Berry's no Blue Dog, he's a Pelosi Lap Dog!
